MEP Michal Wawrikiewicz: We are fully aware that the elections were stolen and rigged under Russian influence – Bidzina Ivanishvili is connected to the authoritarian regime of Russia

We are fully aware that the elections were stolen and rigged under Russian influence, Polish MEP Michal Wawrikiewicz told journalists in Tbilisi.

“We are here in accordance with the resolution of the European Parliament, which supports the Georgian society in its aspirations for freedom, membership in the European Union and the structures of the transatlantic world. We are fully aware that the elections were stolen and rigged under Russian influence, therefore we support the opposition in organizing free and fair elections in the future, and we also support President Salome Zurabishvili as the only legitimate President of Georgia,” said Michal Wawrikiewicz.

The MEP welcomed the imposition of sanctions by the US against Bidzina Ivanishvili.

“As my colleague said, a unanimous decision of the European institutions, not only the European Parliament, but also the Commission and the Council, is necessary. We will work on this because we fully support the decision taken by the US administration. We understand that this is a clear signal to the world that the elections in Georgia were stolen and this person is connected to the authoritarian regime of Russia, which tried to influence the elections in Georgia and is still trying to establish full control over this country," the MEP noted.

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
