The procedure for filing charges against former Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili is currently underway at the Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office.
Okruashvili did not make any comments to the media before entering the building.
He had been summoned to provide explanations to the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament but refused to attend. As a result, the commission transferred the information regarding his failure to appear to the Prosecutor’s Office, which then initiated an investigation.
Following this, the former Defense Minister was summoned to Tbilisi City Court to give testimony. He responded to investigators' questions in front of a magistrate judge.
For reference, under Article 349 of the Georgian Criminal Code, failure to appear before a Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament when summoned is considered a criminal offense. It constitutes "noncompliance with the request of a parliamentary investigative commission" and is punishable by a fine or imprisonment of up to one year, and/or the revocation of the right to hold a position or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
