RMG hosted visitors from University of Geneva

RMG hosted Robert Moritz, the Professor of University of Geneva and senior Scientist Safak Sonmez, at the company premises. Together with RMG’s leading specialists, the guests visited the deposits, conducted field work and took samples needed for scientific research. Within the framework of the working visit, a scientific seminar was held, attended by Rich Metals Group’s employees from the geological department, and invited students and professors from higher education institutions of Georgia.

RMG has been cooperating with the University of Geneva for many years, with the initiative and involvement of Malkhaz Natsvlishvili, the company's deputy executive director for geology and long-term mining planning, and Nino Popkhadze, the head of the mapping department. The cooperation entails the study of Bolnisi deposits, their distribution and geological criteria of existing deposits.

"Professor Moritz and Scientist Sonmez are highly qualified geologists and we wanted to share their experience with as many local specialists as possible. That is why we organized a meeting in the format of a seminar, and invited students and professors from universities. I'm sure it was an interesting day for everyone, as the guests shared with us information related to the trends in the geology of ore deposits, the intensive use of modern methods and the world’s best standards in geology field." - Malkhaz Natsvlishvili, RMG’s Deputy Executive Director for Geology and Long-Term Mining Planning.

“The purpose of our visit was to visit the persons from RMG. We are collaborating since many years - for more than 15 years together, and the company always opened the doors to our students. Shafak is the only last student out of many, who has visited Georgia with me within this partnership, but during previous years we had other students participating in a similar way.

Since the start of our collaboration we have collected quite some data and I think it’s good for the company as well that we can discuss it with our Georgian colleagues; see what is of interest coming from our side, and what is of interest of which company can provide as knowledge in order to understand the ore deposits better and improve mining in the future.” – Robert Moritz, Professor at University of Geneva.

"We have been cooperating with the Faculty of Geology of the University of Geneva for more than 15 years, many projects have been implemented with the involvement of the Swiss National Science Foundation, the University of Geneva and RMG during this time. The research carried out by the university is of an academic nature, however, the involvement of private companies in this type of research is significant.

From our side, we allow the university and its students to carry out work necessary for academic research at our enterprise, and once the results are out, the university shares complete data and outcome obtained from high-rated laboratories in Geneva and Lausanne. The combination of such research and interests (academic and practical) is a common proven method in various companies around the world, which greatly saves time and resources for companies and enables the realization of their interests" - Nino Popkhadze, Doctor of Geological Sciences, RMG’s Head of Geological Mapping Department.
