Irakli Cheishvili: We have nothing to change – if anyone has anything to change in this relationship, it is the European Union

“We have nothing to change – if anyone has anything to change in this relationship, it is the European Union,” Georgian Dream MP Irakli Cheishvili told journalists, responding to the European Commission’s enlargement report and statements by European politicians.
According to him, the European Union must change its approaches toward Georgia, its double standards, and its policy of twisting arms.
Cheishvili notes that Georgian Dream is ready to discuss any sensitive topic with the European Union.
“As we can see, the European Union is going around in the same circle. It is not changing its rhetoric or approaches toward Georgia. In this report, it calls people political prisoners who, for example, burn police officers with Molotov cocktails. For some reason, they do not produce similar reports with regard to France. This is a wrong approach, a double standard, a principle of twisting arms that the European Union applies toward Georgia. Nothing has changed in the report. The European Union is going around in the same circle. This is bad for our future relationship.
We are ready to discuss any sensitive topic with the European Union. We remain in a mode of friendship. We have nothing to change. If anyone has anything to change in this relationship, it is the European Union with regard to Georgia,” Cheishvili stated.
As for the statements of the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pavel Herczyński, the Georgian Dream MP notes that the ambassador was inaccurate in his assessments.
“We have seen his sharp criticism more than once. He talks about us having the wrong policy, while in reality it is the opposite – it is precisely the European Union that is pursuing the wrong policy. The European Union must change its approaches toward Georgia and put an end to double standards once and for all,” Cheishvili said.
