Lasha Tughushi: The European Commission’s report will be the sharpest, because another step backward has been taken in the country – “Georgian Dream” is the most skeptical on the European continent; with such a sharp attitude toward enlargement and Europe they are unique

The European Commission’s report will again be the sharpest, if not even worse, because another step backward has been taken in the country, which was unexpected for the European Commission, – this was stated by the head of the “Liberal Academy,” Lasha Tughushi, while appearing as a guest on PalitraNews’ program “Resume.”
According to Lasha Tughushi’s statement, the issue of the ban on opposition parties will not be included in the European Commission’s report, because the report was written before the start of the process at the Constitutional Court.
“Tomorrow we are expecting the European Commission’s report. In my opinion, it will be at least identical to what was published last year. I think it will repeat those unprecedentedly critical assessments that there were last year. The Commissioner said last year that this is the most critical report that has ever been published in the assessment of an EU candidate country. I think now it will again be the sharpest, if not even worse, because another step backward has been taken in the country, which was unexpected for the European Commission.
Here, probably, what is a very big red line will not be included. I mean the process of banning parties that is ongoing at the Constitutional Court, since this assessment was written earlier than [the process of banning parties] began. Proceeding from this, a ‘pleasure’ awaits us in the future, at the time of yet another assessment.
‘Georgian Dream’ is the most skeptical on the European continent. I have heard many skeptical views, including from very marginal Europeans regarding enlargement, but with such skepticism, with such a sharp attitude toward enlargement and Europe, they are unique,” Lasha Tughushi stated.
