The Prime Minister: The European Commission decided, and not we, to suspend political dialogue with Georgia in June 2024, before we made the statement – we responded to the European Commission’s unfair policy

The decision was that the start of the process of accession to the European Union would not be on the agenda; this was my personal statement, but we emphasized that if the European Commission decided to start accession negotiations, we would join instantly, – this was stated by Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze while participating in the EU enlargement summit organized by Euronews in Brussels.

According to him, the final decision to suspend political dialogue with Georgia was taken by the European Commission.

According to the Prime Minister, his statement was a response to the European Commission’s general policy, which Irakli Kobakhidze called “unfair.”

“Ultimately the European Commission decided, and not we, to suspend political dialogue with Georgia in June 2024, before we made this statement. We responded to the European Commission’s general policy, an unfair policy. We understood that the European Commission was using the issue of candidate status at the first stage and the issue of accession negotiations at the next stage for the blackmail of Georgia, for the blackmail of Georgian society,” the Prime Minister noted.
