For context, former Minister of Internal Affairs and former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia faces charges in the so-called "Chorchana case" under Article 333, Part 2 of the Criminal Code. This pertains to the abuse of official authority by a political official and carries a penalty of three to five years of imprisonment. According to the charges, Giorgi Gakharia made a unilateral decision to establish an additional police outpost near the village of Chorchana, along the occupation line. As a result, approximately one hundred hectares of forest fell under the control of the occupation forces; various illegal activities took place, including the movement of heavy military equipment toward populated areas; and the residential homes of the inhabitants of the villages of Khobi and Tsnelisi—located in the Khashuri Municipality—ended up within the occupied territory.
