Archil Gorduladze: Let Mr. Sioridze at least now spare his nerves – he dared to claim that the SSS is supposedly wiretapping representatives of the Orthodox Church – it is outrageous and has crossed every boundary to spread such a lie!

It is an absolute lie and disinformation that the State Security Service is wiretapping representatives of the Orthodox Church – it is outrageous and has crossed every boundary to spread such a lie! – this statement was made by “Georgian Dream” MP Archil Gorduladze at the Constitutional Court hearing, and he addressed the court to ensure that this would not be repeated in this hall.

Gorduladze’s statement followed the assessment by Giorgi Sioridze, a member of the party “Lelo – Strong Georgia.” Specifically, at the court hearing Sioridze read excerpts from the SSS report related to the Russification policy in the occupied territories and the threats from Russia. At the same time, Sioridze noted that the SSS should be occupied precisely with these issues, “instead of the illegal surveillance of the private lives of clergy, ‘Georgian Dream,’ opponents, and differently thinking persons.”

Gorduladze interrupted Sioridze’s speech and addressed the court.

“Let Mr. Sioridze at least now spare his nerves and stop repeating lies and spreading falsehoods! In general, how do you even mention the Orthodox Church and state security in the same breath?! Mr. Sioridze dared to claim that the State Security Service is supposedly wiretapping representatives of the Orthodox Church – this is an absolute lie and disinformation that Mr. Sioridze dares to spread before the Constitutional Court! It is already outrageous to spread such a lie! This has crossed every boundary – ensure that this is not repeated in this hall,” Archil Gorduladze stated.

In response to Gorduladze, Sioridze noted that these are not his assessments, but publicly circulated facts about which the clergy themselves had also spoken.

“Commissions have been held more than once, in which political opponents, among others, ended up. What was published in the commissions really happened,” Sioridze noted.

For his part, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Revaz Nadaraia, addressed Sioridze, telling him not to speak on a matter that is not related to the topic under consideration in the court.

“I do not sense irritation in Mr. Giorgi Sioridze – the court does not share this indication. Mr. Giorgi! As for the rough accusations, try to be correct and refrain from your assessments regarding this or that fact. Refrain from such indications regarding what has not been confirmed,” the Chairman of the Constitutional Court stated.
