Giorgi Kakhiani: "The United National Movement” shows no remorse for its past actions; on the contrary, our lawsuit is based precisely on the argument that it is a force that poses a threat to the country. As for the “Coalition for Change,” we make the same allegations against them

We have been listening to the explanations given by the United National Movement over the past few days, and one conclusion can be drawn: this political force has not changed at all. It is the same force it was when it was in power. They are simply waiting for the right moment to return to power,” Deputy Chair of the Parliament Giorgi Kakhiani said before the Constitutional Court hearing began.

According to him, the United National Movement is waiting for a suitable opportunity to return to power. Kakhiani believes that, if it does, the party will repeat its past actions, as “it feels no remorse whatsoever for what it did in the past.”

“For the past few days, we have been listening to the explanations given by the United National Movement, and one conclusion can be drawn: this political force has not changed at all. It is the same force it was when it was in power. They are simply waiting for their moment to return to power and continue acting as they did before. We have seen that they express no remorse for the actions we accuse them of having committed in the past. On the contrary, they speak about how good the period of the United National Movement was. They feel no remorse whatsoever for their actions.

“Therefore, should they return to power, the threat would undoubtedly be significant. Human rights and the constitutional order as a whole would be at risk. That is precisely why our constitutional lawsuit is based on the argument that this is a force that poses a threat to the country. When they were in power, they created numerous challenges for the government and the country as a whole. If they return to power, they will do the same things again and repeat their past actions,” Kakhiani stated.

Kakhiani also spoke about another political force, the Coalition for Change, claiming that it is no different from the United National Movement.

According to Kakhiani, the Coalition for Change pursues the same policies as the United National Movement did, and therefore the same allegations are being made against it.

“As for the Coalition for Change, we view it as exactly the same kind of political force as the United National Movement. In fact, it emerged from the United National Movement, did it not? If we look at their past, they are no different from it. Their leaders were part of the United National Movement government, and they pursue the same policies that the United National Movement pursued. They form joint groups, build alliances and pursue the same policies.

“I do not know what arguments they might present today. We will listen to them and comment afterwards. However, we make the same allegations against them as we do against the United National Movement: seeking to overthrow the constitutional order, change it through violence, violate territorial integrity and undermine independence,” Kakhiani stated.
