TI Georgia: The only witness against Aleko Elisashvili is a police dog

Transparency International – Georgia reiterates that opposition politician Aleko Elisashvili is a political prisoner according to Council of Europe criteria.

According to their published analysis, the only witness against Aleko Elisashvili in the so-called terrorism case is a police dog.

"Eight months into the investigation, the prosecution possesses no eyewitness testimony for the reopened case. The video evidence in the case file is entirely unsuitable for identifying the individual, and the biological forensic report remains unavailable even after six months. The sole basis upon which the state accuses the opposition politician of terrorist intent is an odorological forensic analysis. According to a four-page, opaque report, a dog allegedly identified a scent collected from the crime scene after an interval of eight months.

According to the legal assessment by Transparency International – Georgia, this accusation lacks any credible foundation and is characterized by a glaring scarcity of evidence. The organization concludes that this is a case of clearly unjust justice and that, based on Council of Europe criteria, Aleko Elisashvili qualifies as a political prisoner," reads the analysis prepared by Transparency International – Georgia.
