Romanian Foreign Minister: I do not agree with the assessment that it is the European Union that is boycotting the dialogue - the European Union is always ready to continue dialogue with those countries and governments that defend democracy

First and foremost, I must publicly condemn the elections that Russia held on the territory of Georgia. It is very important to say this and to state it clearly, Romanian Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Toiu told journalists in Luxembourg before the meeting of EU foreign ministers.
According to her, other representatives of the European Union also have a very clear position on this issue.
“I think this is a sign that we – the European family – are ready to support Georgia’s sovereignty and the country’s transformation into a stronger, more robust democracy. That is why I would say that this is a positive sign,” the minister noted.
She said that in the field of energy and infrastructure, Romania is conducting negotiations with the countries of the region, including Georgia, in order to increase interconnectivity, and it is very important that this process continues.
“As for the dialogue, as you noted, I do not quite agree with your assessment that it is precisely the European Union that is the side boycotting the dialogue. The European Union is always ready to continue dialogue with those countries and governments that show openness and defend democracy, that are ready to compete with the opposition directly in elections and not by using other types of mechanisms,” the minister noted.
