Tomas Frohnmaier: We should view Georgia as our partner and a bridge to Asia; confrontation with Georgia is not in our interests

There is no better example of double standards. You are concerned about the issue of banning opposition parties in Georgia, yet why do you want to ban "Alternative for Germany"? – This was stated by German MEP and "Alternative for Germany" member Tomas Frohnmaier during the European Parliament debate on Georgia.
"Do you not see the intellectual contradiction here? When you criticize others while doing the same thing yourself, a credibility gap arises—a direct result of this selective outrage. When 20 parties were banned in Ukraine, it didn't bother anyone. On the contrary, you rewarded Zelenskyy with billions. This concept of human rights is interpreted selectively—based on selective morality—and it seriously damages our credibility on the international stage. This is precisely why we are losing influence," the MEP noted.
According to him, Europe should view Georgia as a partner and a bridge to Asia.
“What is the issue regarding Georgia? The country is developing, with economic growth standing at 8 percent. That would be a dream come true for us. The ‘Good Governance Index’ ranks it higher than some EU member states, while the World Justice Project places it first in Central Asia regarding the rule of law. So, what is the real issue? It is not about democracy. It is about the fact that Georgia rejects the absurdity of ‘woke’ ideology and LGBT propaganda, respects its Christian heritage, and refuses to get involved in the Russia-Ukraine conflict because it does not want to become the next Ukraine. We need to understand this. It is a small country. Russia, Iran, Turkey—Georgia is surrounded by all of them. It is compelled to act differently. We must take this into account and view Georgia as our partner and a bridge to Asia. That is the reality. Confrontation with Georgia is simply not in our interests," the MEP noted.
