Kakha Kaladze: We want only friendly and partnership-based relations with Europe—not a situation where someone looks down on or and gets angry because we didn't join sanctions or didn't open a second front

It is important to start a new chapter in relations with the European Union; this is what Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze told the media while discussing EU relations in light of a joint appeal by the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) and the European Liberal Forum, in which they call for sanctions against representatives of the Georgian Dream government.

According to Kakha Kaladze, regarding the restoration of relations with the EU, Georgian Dream speaks openly about the importance of starting fresh.

"Relations with the Georgian state must be based on truth and fairness—without anyone looking down on us or getting angry because the country did not join European sanctions and did not harm its own economy, or because we disregarded their threats regarding the opening of a 'second front.' We want only friendly, partnership-based relations," Kakha Kaladze stated.

He added that those calling for sanctions against Georgian government officials harbor a hostile attitude toward the Georgian people.

"The statements made by these individuals are often riddled with falsehoods. For instance, when we asked for specific arguments—specifically when they opposed the legislative amendments we adopted regarding transparency—they failed to present any. They have no arguments; they are simply carrying out directives aimed against the country. As for personal sanctions, that is their decision; no one can intimidate us with that. What matters most is pursuing a policy that preserves peace and drives the country's economic development," noted Kakha Kaladze.
