Maria Zakharova: This is not the first time when Georgia is used to destabilize the situation in the post-Soviet space

This is not the first time when Georgia is used to destabilize the situation in the post-Soviet space, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, said at a briefing.

Maria Zakharova responded to the statement released by the State Security Service of Georgia on February 5, which states that the seized 14 kilograms of explosives were brought to Georgia from the Ukrainian city of Odesa through Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, through the Sarpi checkpoint, and were planned to be exported to the Russian city of Voronezh, from Dariali.

"Unfortunately, this is not the first time when Georgia, its territory (previously also people) is used in the literal sense by those who want to destabilize the situation in the post-Soviet space and use terrorist methods. Let us remind you that during the period of international terrorism in the North Caucasus, international terrorists were transporting or trying to transport (sometimes they succeeded, sometimes they were prevented) weapons, ammunition, money and drugs through the territory of Georgia, without which terrorism both then and now, on the example of the Kyiv regime, is no longer "perfect" in its characteristics", said Zakharova.

According to her, there was an attempt to bring explosive material into Russia through Georgia "for the purpose of organizing terrorist attacks."

"We all remember that those who were behind the transfer of international terrorists to our country, received these militants and extremists in Washington and London, and did everything to make Georgia a transit point for international terrorism, when they literally created a "tourist trail" through the valleys, etc. We all remember this well. As I understand, this is well remembered in Georgia as well. It is important not to forget what they wanted to do to us, to our countries, to our nations in the 1990s, when they were provoking us," Zakharova said.

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs blamed the Ukrainian side for the incident, which "is being cheered by its Western curators."
