Sergey Shamba: There are no political forces in Abkhazia that want to join Russia

Abkhazia is in favor of close and allied relations with Russia, although there are no political forces in the republic that would like to join Russia, this is how the secretary of the so-called security council of occupied Abkhazia, Sergey Shamba, responded to the statement of the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, who said that the idea of Abkhazia and "South Ossetia" joining Russia is still popular and it is quite possible that it will be implemented if there are good reasons for it.
"South Ossetia has repeatedly held a referendum on joining Russia, and this is a natural way to unite the people of North and South Ossetia, and I think it is fully consistent with what Dimitry Anatolyevich said. I hope that in due time there will be an opportunity and South Ossetia will unite with North Ossetia, as for Abkhazia, we have our own path, different, we have never applied to join the Russian Federation, and I don't see any political forces in Abkhazia who would see such a form of relations between our countries," Shamba said.
