Grigory Karasin: The European Union, the United States and Switzerland have an evident desire to disrupt the work of the Geneva discussions

According to the head of the International Affairs Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation, Grigory Karasin, the European Union, the United States and Switzerland have an evident desire to disrupt the work of the Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia.
"The main mechanism that ensures stability in the region is the Geneva international discussions, convened since 2008, in which representatives of Sokhumi, Tskhinvali, Tbilisi, Russia and the USA participate through the mediation of the United Nations, the European Union and the OSCE," Karasin said.
According to him, a total of 55 rounds "full of dialogue and intense discussions" have been held. Karasin called the Geneva discussions an insurance net in the South Caucasus region.
"What has been worrying in the latest period is the desire of the European Union, the United States and Switzerland to disrupt the work of these discussions under the pretext of the ongoing events in Ukraine. The last meeting was held in December 2021. This is extremely dangerous, because it can lead to deliberate provocation. Thus, when celebrating another date of Saakashvili's aggression, we should think about how to prevent something like this in the future," says Grigory Karasin.
