They signed a memorandum in Bucharest that opens NATO doors to Ukraine and Georgia - if they took one step under pressure from the United States, how do we have guarantees that there will not be another? - Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Russian Security Council.

"We are told that some NATO countries are opposed to Ukraine becoming a member of the alliance. Despite their opposition, they signed a memorandum in Bucharest in 2008 that opens NATO doors to Ukraine and Georgia," Putin said.

According to Putin, there are no guarantees.

"What is the answer to my question - why did you do it? Under pressure from the United States, this is the answer. But if they took one step under pressure from the United States, how do we have guarantees that there will not be another under pressure? There are no such guarantees," Putin added.

According to Putin, the United States easily rejects any agreement and any document it signs.

"There are no guarantees, because the United States easily rejects any agreement, any document it signs. But still, something has to be recorded on paper and adopted by an international legal act. We can not agree on that today," Putin said at a Security Council meeting.
