Jens Stoltenberg: We have to ensure that if Russia does what it already did in Georgia in 2008 and in Ukraine in 2014, then the whole alliance will respond

"We have to make sure that if Russia does what it already did in Georgia in 2008 and in Ukraine in 2014, then the whole alliance will respond," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with Echo of Moscow.
He said that the more aggression NATO sees from Russia against Ukraine, the more troops it will move to the eastern part.
"Russia's aggression against Ukraine is will have opposite consequences, not the ones that Russia wants, because the more aggression we see from Russia against Ukraine, the more NATO troops will move to the eastern part of NATO. Prior to the annexation of Crimea and the military control of the Donbas in Ukraine, we did not have a contingent in the East. Since 2014, after Russia invaded Ukraine, we have deployed troops on our borders in Poland and the Baltic states and also, increased our presence in the Baltic and Black Sea regions. We have to ensure that if Russia does what it already did in Georgia in 2008 and in Ukraine in 2014, then the whole alliance will respond," Stoltenberg said.
He said that if a NATO country suffers, Article 5 will take effect. He stressed that the reasons why NATO has deployed troops in the east are to show Russia that if it invades Ukraine again, NATO will deploy even more troops.
