According to the agency, the hotline had been activated since the moment of the illegal detention, and the co-chairs of the EUMM and the Geneva International Discussions were informed.

"A few minutes ago, we transferred the American citizen, who is in Georgia for tourism purposes and was illegally detained by the Russian occupation forces, to a territory controlled by the central government. The hotline had been activated since the arrest, information was provided to the EUMM in Georgia, as well as the Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions, and all available levers were applied to release the illegally detained US citizen and transfer him to the territory controlled by the central government of Georgia in a timely manner," said Irakli Antadze, a spokesman for the State Security Service.

According to State Security Service, intensive consultations were held on a daily basis in order to release the illegally detained person.

"I crossed the border, I did not know about it, then I returned. I cannot say much, I was in prison this time. Then I was released. I was planning a hike in the Caucasus region, in the direction of the Black Sea, and I was prevented from doing so on the border," said the US citizen after his release.

According to the State Security Service, the Russian Federation is fully responsible for the illegal detention of citizens.
