State Security Service says representatives of occupation regime illegally detained Georgian citizen

Representatives of the occupation regime illegally detained a Georgian citizen in the occupied territory, in the Roki tunnel section of the Georgian-Russian state border.

According to the State Security Service, the hotline was immediately activated and the EUMM was informed about the illegal detention. The incident was also reported to the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions and international partners.

"Illegal detentions carried out by the occupation regime significantly damage the security environment in the occupied territories and along the occupation line. The illegal detentions are aimed at intimidating the local population and sparking tensions and protests in the territory controlled by the Georgian central government.

The Russian Federation, as the sole force exercising effective control over the occupied territories, bears full responsibility for the illegal detentions," the statement said.
