Antonio Guterres raises concerns about Azerbaijan-Armenia border tension and calls on both sides to end fighting

UN Secretary-General releases a statement where he notes that he's "deeply concerned" by the reports on tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia and calls on both sides to de-escalate the situation.

"The Secretary-General urges an immediate end to the fighting and calls on all involved to take immediate steps to de-escalate the situation and refrain from provocative rhetoric", - reads the statement.

Antonio Guterres also touched upon the call of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group Co-Chairs with regards to the resumption of talks and the return of OSCE monitors.

"[The Secretary-General] reiterates his full support for their efforts to address this dangerous situation and search for a peaceful, negotiated settlement to the longstanding Nagorno-Karabakh conflict", - notes the statement.

For the record, the border clash between Azerbaijan and Armenia started on 12 July as a result of which 3 Azerbaijani servicemen have died.
