Georgia’s Foreign Ministry condemns occupation forces' "destructive" process of “borderization” amid pandemic

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia categorically condemns the continuation of illegal process of erection of artificial barriers by the Russian occupation forces in the vicinity of the village of Takhtisdziri, Kareli Municipality, the Foreign Ministry said in its statement.
According to the Ministry, erection of artificial barriers by the occupation forces has already restricted by the access of local population to agricultural lands.
“Amid the coronavirus pandemic, especially on Easter days, by making such destructive steps the Russian Federation is deliberately trying to escalate the situation on the ground and aggravate the security environment. By these steps Russia and its occupying regime put conflict-affected population in an unbearable situation. Many people living in Tskhinvali region lost their lives as they were not allowed to move to the territory, controlled by the central government of Georgia.
Such destructive actions are particularly concerning in circumstances in which the entire world is attempting to combat the spread of the coronavirus infection," the ministry said.
According to the statement, the government of Georgia continues working with the Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions and the EU Monitoring Mission to ensure that the effective measures are undertaken with the aim to stop the above illegal process.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia calls upon the Russian Federation to cease its destructive and provocative actions against Georgia and fulfil the undertaken international obligations, including the EU-mediated 12 August 2008 Ceasefire Agreement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia appeals to the international community to give a due assessment and take effective measures regarding the ongoing illegal processes along the occupation line.
