Vladimir Putin signs bill that allows government to label journalists as foreign agents

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a bill that allows the government to label bloggers, journalists and social media users as foreign agents.

The bill extends an existing law on foreign-funded media.

The new law extends further and can apply to individual journalists and bloggers — or anyone who distributes content from the outlets registered as foreign agents and receives funding from abroad.

The move has been described by many in Russia as restriction of freedom of expression even further.
