Russia's acting ambassador to the UN: Russia will continue its efforts to develop cooperation with Georgia, despite opposition from Western countries

Russia will continue its efforts to develop cooperation with Georgia, despite opposition from Western countries, - Dmitry Polanski, Russia's acting ambassador to the UN, said after the UN Security Council meeting.

"Unfortunately, the position of the Western countries does not help much, but I can assure you that we are trying our best to develop bilateral cooperation, trade, peopl-to-people relations," Polanski was quoted as saying by the Tass agency.

He also noted that the "Georgian goods are exported to Russia without any delay and are very popular in the Russian market."

The situation in Georgia was discussed at the closed session of the UN Security Council, chaired by Poland. After the session, representatives of the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, France, Poland and Estonia issued a joint statement in which they express support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty and call on Russia to fully implement its commitments under the August 12 agreement, withdraw its armed forces and allow international security mechanisms to enter the Georgian regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
