Maria Zakharova: We are ready to restore relations with Georgia, and will go as far as Tbilisi is willing to go – There are no limits on our side

“We are ready to restore relations with Georgia and will go as far as Tbilisi is willing to go,” said Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a briefing.

According to Zakharova, in 2024, there were “undoubtedly positive signals” from Georgia, specifically regarding the need for an apology.

“We hope these [signals] will be implemented through concrete steps toward normalizing relations with Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” Zakharova stated.

She also said that the severance of diplomatic relations between Russia and Georgia did not happen because of Russia, but rather due to the “regime of then-President Mikheil Saakashvili.”

“We are ready to restore them, and we are willing to go as far as the Georgian side is ready to go. There are no restrictions for us here...

There are great opportunities for cooperation. Russia remains a key market for Georgia in many areas, especially in wine and fruit exports. Conversely, Russia is a leading supplier of energy and grain to Georgia,” said Zakharova.
