Irakli Kadagishvili on the Council of Europe resolution: The opposition lacks the resources to create anything real in the country, so they resort to such types of resolutions from the outside, which serve as shaking fists after a lost battle

This opposition lacks the resources to create anything real in the country, so they rely on such types of resolutions from the outside, which tactically serve as shaking fists after a lost battle – the time will come when certain forces will have to answer for this,” said the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Regional Policy and Self-Government, [Irakli Kadagishvili], commenting on the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

According to him, European politicians were defeated in the parliamentary elections held in Georgia, and they took this defeat as a personal insult.

“We clearly understand that those pursuing this policy have one main issue – they don’t like the choice made by the Georgian people. They don’t like it because they had their own preferred choice, their own election campaign. We all witnessed how rudely they trampled on the sovereignty of the country, the principles of democracy, the principle of non-interference in elections, and even the diplomatic code of conduct. They practically participated in the elections. They were defeated, and naturally, they perceived this defeat as a personal insult. As a result, they did what they are doing now – attempts to provoke confrontation, escalate the situation, and encourage it.

This opposition has no capacity to create anything real within the country, so they rely on such resolutions from outside, which are tactically used to shake fists after losing a battle. In reality, this negatively affects the relationship between Georgia and Europe. Of course, the time will come when certain forces will have to answer for why Georgia was made a victim of political blackmail,” said Kadagishvili.

For reference, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted the resolution on Georgia with 89 votes in favor and 3 against, while 5 members abstained. The resolution draft noted that the Assembly expresses deep regret that despite its decision to ratify the credentials of the Georgian delegation, all its members left the delegation, thereby rejecting dialogue, resulting in the absence of a Georgian delegation in the Assembly. The text also emphasizes that the situation in Georgia has deteriorated.
