Gia Volski: The same propaganda is being spread to convince young people that we want to blame Georgia and justify Russia

"The same propaganda is being spread to convince young people that we, sitting here in this commission, want to blame Georgia and justify Russia," said the First Vice Speaker of Parliament, Gia Volski, during a session of the temporary parliamentary investigative commission examining the activities of the former United National Movement government. His remarks were a response to the ongoing protest near Parliament.

"All television channels and media outlets were under [the United National Movement's] control. Even now, propaganda is being used to convince young people that we, sitting here in this commission, want to blame Georgia and justify Russia. They are under the influence of this propaganda. Imagine what would have happened if someone had dared to speak up back when they held power," Volski stated.

In response, the chair of the commission, Tea Tsulukiani, clarified that only a certain group of young people was participating in the protest outside Parliament.

"To clarify, we are talking about a certain group of young people, because youth in our country is much more numerous. I am sure that the majority of them will follow these sessions with interest. They will learn a lot that they did not know before and, most importantly, they will carefully examine the documents you listed," Tsulukiani said.

Volski later emphasized that his remarks were not directed at all young people.

"I said 'these young people,' I did not say 'all young people.' I was not talking about everyone," he added during the session.
