Shalva Papuashvili: Based on the interest of the Council of Europe's monitoring mission, I noted that the government is doing significant work to ensure that real, substantial steps toward EU integration are taken in a timely manner

The Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, met with members of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly’s Monitoring Committee, co-rapporteurs for Georgia, Edith Estrela and Claude Kern.

As Shalva Papuashvili writes on social media, during the meeting, they discussed the ongoing political and social processes in Georgia.

"We discussed the activities of Parliament, the protection of human rights, and Georgia’s efforts toward EU membership.

I reviewed the results of the October parliamentary elections and the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR.

I also introduced the members of the Council of Europe delegation to the opposition's tactics, which include boycotting Parliament and using each election as a tool for political struggle.

The discussion also covered the protests that have been taking place over the past few weeks.

Based on the interest of the Council of Europe’s monitoring mission, I noted that the Georgian government is doing significant work to ensure that real, substantial steps toward EU integration are taken in a timely manner, and that Georgia will be able to successfully complete the EU accession process in the coming years," Shalva Papuashvili wrote.

According to the Parliament of Georgia, the meeting also included the head of the Permanent Delegation of the Parliament of Georgia to the Council of Europe, Vice Speaker Tea Tsulukiani, and a member of the delegation, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science, and Youth Affairs, Givi Mikhanadze.
