Gigi Tsereteli: It is important that visa restrictions are imposed not on citizens, but on representatives of the de facto authorities. This is support from the West for the society that has been expressing its protest for over 40 days

"It is important that visa restrictions are not imposed on Georgian citizens but on representatives of the de facto authorities who hold diplomatic passports. This is a show of support from the West for the aspirations of our society, which has been protesting for over 40 days," said one of the leaders of "United National Movement," Gigi Tsereteli.

According to him, "there is no dialogue on real ways to defuse the crisis, which is why our partners will respond."

"As the public knows, our European partners have discussed at a very high level—among foreign ministers and in the European Council—the possibility of imposing visa restrictions. It is important to note that these restrictions are not aimed at Georgian citizens holding regular passports but at individuals with diplomatic or service passports. These measures represent diplomatic and political pressure from the West aimed at compelling the current de facto authorities to change their policies so that Georgia can return to its path of European integration.

This is a way of expressing support for the aspirations of our society and the majority of the public, which has been protesting for over 40 days. Many of them are imprisoned for this reason.

There is no dialogue on real solutions to defuse the crisis. Our partners will respond, and this is the result of the policies implemented by the de facto authorities," Tsereteli stated.
