Teona Akubardia, a member of the "Gakharia for Georgia" movement, emphasized that it is up to the President to decide on their actions before the upcoming elections. She expressed confidence that the President will continue to support Georgia's European future, given the country's path towards EU membership.
Akubardia responded to questions about the potential formation of a so-called "technical government" and whether President Salome Zurabishvili would be considered for the position of Prime Minister. According to Akubardia, the President has not expressed any desire to become a candidate for Prime Minister at this stage. She reiterated that it is within the President’s prerogative to determine the timing and composition of any such government.
Regarding Georgia's broader political future, Akubardia noted that the "Charter" signed by her movement outlines a comprehensive plan to implement the nine recommendations set forth by the European Union, which are essential for advancing Georgia’s integration into the EU. This plan will be executed following the parliamentary elections and is aimed at reopening the door to Europe, a process Akubardia believes the current "Georgian Dream" government has hindered.
Akubardia sees the "technical government" as an opportunity to ensure that "Georgian Dream" moves into the opposition while preventing the return of the "National Movement" to power. She stressed that any members of the proposed technical government must not have ties to the previous "National Movement" government, citing the serious criticisms and accusations of crimes against that administration.
As the October 26 elections approached, Akubardia highlighted the significance of this moment for Georgia’s future, expressing optimism that the Georgian people will secure the country's place in Europe. She views this election as a pivotal point in determining the direction of the country and believes the technical government plan is part of a broader strategy to restore Georgia’s European trajectory.
Commenting on the upcoming "Georgia Chooses the European Union" march scheduled for October 20, Akubardia stated that this event underscores that Georgia has already made its choice to be part of the European family. According to her, Georgia's future lies with Europe, and the country's citizens are ready to reaffirm that commitment.
