Politics should be beyond the categories of perceptions, any statements and attitudes should be substantiated and supported by facts and real evidence, this is how the member of the parliamentary majority Davit Matikashvili responded to the statement of the US Embassy about Nika Gvaramia, the founder of the Mtavari TV.
As Davit Matikashvili said on PalitraNews, it is a pity that there is no argument or proof behind such statements.
"Let's start from the fact that the court is the third branch of government that makes decisions as provided by law. Everyone has the right to criticize and evaluate - to like something or not, however, no one has the right to impose his/her opinion on the court - be it the state, president, prime minister, parliament, chairman of parliament, ambassador, department of any country or anyone else, because the court is independent.
While the country is in the leading position according to the justice index, and all this was proved by the evaluations of very high level specialists of the same country, the statements based on such perceptions remain, unfortunately, only empty statements. It is very sad when there is no evidence or argument behind a statement," said Davit Matikashvili.
Tbilisi Court of Appeal found Nika Gvaramia, the founder of Mtavari TV, guilty. Accordingly, the imprisonment imposed on him by the Tbilisi City Court for 3 years and 6 months remained in force. In addition, the Court of Appeals convicted Nika Gvaramia for abuse of office in the episode of embezzlement of 6 million 700 000 GEL. The 50,000 GEL fine was replaced by imprisonment, but in the end, he will have to stay in prison for the previously determined period of 3 years and 6 months.
