According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, the Georgian Government is actively working with the countries that are skeptical about the enlargement of the European Union in order to show them the opportunities created by Georgia with ambitious reforms.
"As you know, there has always been and probably will be skeptics about EU enlargement, who have specific visions for EU enlargement in general and which are important to consider. In this regard, we are working very actively with skeptical countries to show them the opportunities that our country has created with its ambitious reforms as well as our expectations that are very important to us when we talk about our European future. Of course, all our partners recognize the results that our country has achieved in recent years on the path to European integration and this process will continue in the future as well. Our partners recognize Georgia's European perspective in bilateral formats and we are talking to them about how to speed up this process," Darchiashvili said.
The Foreign Minister answered a question whether the Georgian Government is considering any kind of alternative union if there is no positive decision on the candidate status.
"I have had a meeting with my French counterpart recently and on the basis of our conversation, I can tell you that France does not consider this format as an alternative to any other format. Accordingly, we know what we have to do for our European integration, however the Government of Georgia will definitely consider any other opportunity platform, or format that will enable us to accelerate our European integration. Of course, it should contribute to what we are doing on a daily basis in the direction of European integration," Darchiashvili said.
