Kakha Kuchava elected as the Speaker of the Parliament

Kakha Kuchava, one of the leaders of the Georgian Dream, has been elected Speaker of the Parliament. As a result of the vote, 86 deputies supported Kuchava's candidacy, while six MPs voted against.

Before the voting, Kuchava addressed the parliament with a speech. Only one opposition MP, Iago Khviachia, asked the question to the parliamentary candidate. There was no debate before the vote for the election of the Speaker of Parliament - which is provided in the rules of procedure.

It should be noted that MPs Levan Ioseliani and Davit Zilfimiani made assessments regarding the candidate for the Speaker of the Parliament at the plenary session. As they stated on behalf of their own political team, they support Kakha Kuchava for this position.

On April 24, Archil Talakvadze announced his resignation from the post of Parliament Speaker. Talakvadze will be elected Vice-Speaker, a position that Kakha Kuchava had held in the parliament of the tenth convocation.
